Katie’s quest in becoming a public speaker has been all but easy. Growing up in Mobile, Alabama, Katie was an out-going, athletic teenager until she unexpectedly found herself battling for her life. One night in 2009, Katie fell ill to an unknown illness that left her in severe respiratory distress. After spending seven months at the Children’s Hospital of Alabama, her illness had changed her life forever.
When Katie enrolled at Stewart Home & School in November of 2018, she had dreams to become a published author and motivational speaker. As someone who had been through so much, she wanted to take her story and use it as a tool to help others through their own obstacles in life.
In two short months, with the help of Jennifer Zingg, Katie made her speaking debut in January in front of Stewart Home & School’s entire student body. Shortly thereafter, Katie was booked to speak at the Frankfort Optimist Club’s monthly meeting. With her story in hand, Katie walked up to the podium and delivered an impactful speech titled “Life is Like a Road Trip.” Katie shared that no matter the obstacles life brings, you can overcome them by looking at the greater good. Once finished, Katie realized that the standing ovation she was receiving was proof that she too has overcome another obstacle in her life’s journey.
Due to the incredible impact she left, the Frankfort Optimist Club invited Katie to speak at their Mike Rosenstein Rising Star Banquet that was held on May 16th. This event honors two children from each of Franklin County’s public schools for their character, efforts in the classroom, and leadership. Katie was introduced as the guest speaker and then delivered another powerful speech in front of 130 guests, including her parents who flew in from out of state. Following her speech, Katie was recognized with a special certificate naming her one of Franklin County’s Rising Stars and was applauded with another standing ovation.
Congratulations Katie, we are so happy you are continuing to follow your dreams, no matter the obstacles.
