Nestled five miles north from Stewart Home & School is the Kentucky State Capitol. The Capitol hosts an abundance of offices that include the Governor’s Office, the Chambers of the House of Representatives and theSenate, as well as Legislative Offices. More recently, they’ve added a staffer to the Capitol – Elizabeth, one of Stewart Home & School’s newest students. She has joined fellow students Alisa and Angela as employees on the “Morning Bill Room Team.” “Elizabeth has been a welcome addition to the team,” says Tracey Doyle, who helps oversee the Bill Room Team. During session they record, distribute, and file all the bills, amendments, and resolutions that pass through the Senate chambers each day. It is astounding that this her first session, because she has picked up the tasks so quickly and has done a wonderful job. SH&S student and fellow staffer, Alisa, could not agree more with Tracey. “She’s doing a great job,” Alisa said. Elizabeth understands that attention to detail is key in the bill room. One different number or letter can represent a significant difference in documents, and “[h]er attention to detail has been amazing,” Tracey said. Tracey has also noted that Elizabeth is great at offering to help with other things and does them with enthusiasm. “We work very closely together; and, it can be very stressful at times. Particularly when the Senate is convening early, and the chamber fills up with people early in the day. Elizabeth always keeps her cool and stays calm even with people milling about and watching us work.” Elizabeth stated she loves every aspect of her new position, from working with her friends Alisa and Angela, to getting to learn about Senate Bills, she said that she’s happy to be a part of the team. Congratulations, Elizabeth on your Capitol success! |
