Our Students Have Unique Talents

Lifelong Learning is for everyone at Stewart Home & School

We all like to think that we are good at something. At least one thing. It may be tennis. It may be writing. It may even be bringing smiles to other people’s faces. But we all want to be good at something! I think we all look for that one thing we are good at so that we may feel like we have a sense of purpose here on Earth.

Over the course of the last few months I have found our students to be good, no, amazing, at so many different things. Talking with the teachers about the students’ talents had to be one of the most exhilarating projects I have done here at Stewart Home & School. As emails flooded in from correspondent teachers bragging about what their students could do, it brought joy to my heart to know that we were going to share the students’ amazing talents with others and they would then be able to see how truly amazing our students are! Then I realized… you all already know this! But, I wanted to brag on our students anyway. It was fun, exciting and fulfilling to see the expression on the students’ faces as I walked around campus with my video camera and asked them if I could tape their talent. I don’t believe one student told me no!

It was an amazing experience to watch the students do what they do best and try to somehow convey that through a video. It is a lot more difficult than one would think to capture the love in someone’s eyes, the innocence in a laugh, and the joy I felt as I videotaped our students practicing their talents with ease and confidence. I just hope that some of those feelings I felt videotaping poured over into the video. It really made me think, “Gosh, I just hope I can find that one thing I can be good at.” Once again, the students teach me something else about myself!

Our students have a unique ability to make us laugh, cry, and to teach us life lessons, but not in the way our parents did. Our students teach us that lifelong learning is truly something we all strive for, if only to find that ONE thing we are good at. We feel lost without that one thing. I now have that one thing. As an employee at Stewart Home School, I at least know I am good at loving our students as the unique, talented individuals that they are and appreciate that every single student adds a purpose to my life and to those that surround themselves with the Stewart Home & School family. I believe that one thing is quite fulfilling and rewarding, and something I can’t quite put into words.

Our students teach me more than I can dream of teaching them. Our students know how to live, to learn, and to love, which happens to be the perfect motto we use on the homepage of our website. And it speaks so true to our students. They teach us how to live out our dreams, how to learn from each other, and how to love one another as we are and to appreciate each other’s unique talents and abilities. See? That’s THREE things we can do well!
