We had our first Dinner and a Movie last night and it was a smashing success!!!!!! After stocking our beautiful, brand new kitchen with everything we might need for our culinary creations, we got down to business of preparing a great meal. Our group of seven worked so well together and knew a ton about the basic rules of the kitchen and how to follow directions. Our menu consisted of breaded chicken, blanched green beans prepared with fresh garlic, and a fresh fruit salad with mangoes, strawberries, mandarin oranges, and the biggest green grapes any of us had ever seen!
Lindsay said a lovely prayer before we began eating, and while dining family style we had some wonderful conversation during our meal. When we finished there was not a green bean or piece of fruit to be had. The entire table was bare! For dessert we made chocolate mousse with mini chocolate chips. And in the spirit of Halloween, we watched Monster House.
I cannot say enough about how much fun we had making our dinner, dessert and watching the movie. I was so impressed with our students’ manners and thoughtful consideration of not just myself, but of each other as well. A couple of our students commented that when we sat down to the table it felt just like home and that was exactly what I had in mind when I imagined this program. I can’t wait to do it again!
Warm Regards,
Jen
