Many Surprises in Current Events Class
written by Barry Banker, Current Events teacher, as an Academic Spotlight
Current events class was very lively class today—partially because the weather was sunny and 63 degrees which made everyone feel good. I asked everyone what was their favorite Spring “thing”. Flowers, green trees, and warmth were at the top of the list with Family Weekend, golf, and Easter close seconds !!
While discussing flowers, I quizzed the class on their favorite color—to my surprise purple beat blue by a margin of 17-12. PURPLE !! WOW !! Who knew—not I, but then I’m over 60 !!!
As I drill lots of civics into the class, I was pleased to see that 90% of the class answered the correct number of U.S. Senators ! The “current” portion of the class centered around negotiations with Iran. Thiry out of 31 students felt the U.S. should be more firm with Iran. Many expressed their concern for the safety of Israel.
We ended class by reciting “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” which we have said since our first Current Events class commenced in 2005 !
My students are bright, participative, and attentive.
