Employee Spotlight
During this wonderful, beautiful summer, it is my please to present our July Employee Spotlight – our cosmetologist, Carla Monroe. A cosmetologist is described as “one who provides beauty”. Beauty’s own definition is “the qualities in a persona or a thing that give pleasure to the senses or the mind.” When Carla came to Stewart Home & School in May, 2011, her skills in creating beauty within our students, both in appearance and happiness, enhanced the essence of our beautiful campus.For it has been said, “I’ve never seen a smiling fave that was not beautiful.” And because of Carla, smiling faces are everywhere.
I hired Carla right before Family Weekend 2011, and was thrilled that her cheerful disposition made her the perfect fit. She has been a pleasure to have on our team. Our students adore her! Her pampering of our students and friendships with the rest of our staff has bloomed into lasting relationships.
Carla says her favorite memory was her first Family Weekend, with all the activity and excitement. The love of the families and everyone coming together to have such a fun weekend.
Cala believes that the biggest changes that she has seen since coming to SHS has been the brand new renovation of the area below the gym – pre-academic classes and the beauty shop “Cuts and Curls”. The wider hallways and the addition of windows and doors has added more light and open space to the room. The one thing Carla believes has stayed the same is the love that we receive on a daily basis from the students!
In her free time, Carla loves to read, but says that she doesn’t get too much time to do that with four children and two grandchildren. She’s too busy spending time with her family and loving her adorable grand babies, so her free time is limited.
If she wasn’t spreading sunshine at SHS, Carla says she would still be using her skills as a cosmetologist in a beauty shop somewhere. In addition to her cosmetologist role, Carla provides guidance and supervision for student workers in the beauty shop – giving them the opportunity for a fulfilling typical work experience with the safety of being on campus. It is a collective hub of constant excitement and positive energy. And whether she is cutting or coloring hair or giving mani/pedies or helping put on those special touches so everyone can look their best for a dance, she is always creating a beautiful, happy environment throughout campus.
