The Stewart Home School Annual Big Man on Campus/Miss SHS Pageant was held this evening. This year's theme was "Boot Scootin' Boogie", and everyone had a great time! The talent was amazing, and the selection of winners was a tough job. Our 2010 Big Man on Campus honor went to Camray, with the title of SHS Prince going to Josh! Miss SHS was awarded to Eileen, and this year's SHS Princess is Jennifer! Congratulations to everyone who participated!

Wow! Our own SHS student Kevin has received a great honor! Alexis Hardesty of Youth Leadership Frankfort selected Kevin as the person "Who Inspires Her"! Youth Leadership Frankfort is designed to develop high school students into leaders who are informed, motivated, and committed to working toward an improved quality of life. The goal of the program is to identify and help develop youth with leadership skills and an indepth knowledge of the Frankfort/Franklin County Community.

Pictures from the Special Olympics Kentucky Regional Softball Tournament. Excessive heat forced a cancellation of most of the afternoon games, and the tournament then became single elimination. All our teams played hard and did their best!

SHS Mayor Dorothy got to spend the day with Frankfort's Mayor Gippy Graham. This is what she had to say:
I went to visit Mayor Gippy at his office! He gavae me a tour of the building. I met the Chief of Police and he showed me around. I learned about a lot of police work. I met a lot of people that work for the Mayor and for the police too. Mayor Gippy was so nice to me that he gave me the key to the City of Frankfort. I learned what to do when you call 911. The Mayor has a huge job to do. Gippy helped me a lot and I learned from Mayor Gippy too. Everyone was so nice and I would like to visit again.

The Special Olympics Torch Run made a stop at Stewart Home School today. Military troops and police ran in formation to the cul-de-sac, and participated in our State Track & Field Ceremonies. Good luck to our athletes who will be competing this weekend!

We had beautiful weather for the SOKY Regional Soccer Tournament! The SHS Panthers got the Regional Tournament's Gold medal, while the Kickers, Lions and Wildcats all got Bronze medals!

During our May Assembly we observed the National Day of Prayer. Many students were involved with presentations to help us learn more about the day. Our assembly was held outside; a beautiful day to pray and give thanks.

SHS recently participated in the Heroes Campaign of the American Red Cross, more than DOUBLING the Hero status requirement!! Stewart Home School employees raised $2182.51 in employee contributions & departmental fundraisers including bake sales, raffles, silent auctions, pies in the face, etc. Stewart Home School added a check for $317.49 to the money raised by employees to allow us to present the American Red Cross with $2500.00 total. Machele Lawless, HR Director, and SHS Mayor Dorothy are seen here presenting the money to Diane Dominick, Chair, Board of Directors, American Red Cross.

Our Students of the Month for April have just been announced! Congratulations to Ali, David, Sandra and Pat! Photos of the honorees will hang in the School Program Office for the next month. In addition, each student received a medal AND a gift certificate to a local restaurant. Way to go!!

Our Passover/Good Friday Service was held in the gym this morning. Susan told everyone what activities our students of the Jewish faith participated in for Passover. We then had scripture readings, music, singing, and a message from Father Chuck. At the end of the service, a group performed sign language to the song "You Raise Me Up".

Our Annual Awards Ceremony was held today. Students received certificates acknowledging their achievement in academics, athletics and activities. Everyone enjoyed entertainment and refreshments during the ceremonies! Afterward, there was a special "Surf n Turf" dinner, followed by a Celebration Dance in the gym.

March 12-14, 2010
The State Basketball Tournament was this weekend, and was a great weekend it was! The week leading up to the Tournament, we had Spirit Week on campus. Students and staff alike wore spirit buttons, dressed in the school's colors, watched and participated in scrimmage games. Friday morning before the teams left, we had a huge Pep Rally, recognizing each player and wishing them all the best of luck!

Body Recall ", an exercise program designed to provide a lifetime of fitness and wellness is coming to Stewart Home School! On February 9, Jeff Rubin, the Executive Director of "Body Recall" is coming to see the school and to tell us about the program. Debbie Bell, Franklin County Health Educator, a trained Body Recall teacher herself, will explain what is involved in training our teachers to become Body Recall instructors for our student body. The Body Recall program addresses three big problems: obesity, diabetes and injuries from falls. This is so exciting for us! We hope to send several key staff members for the training in Berea, Kentucky this summer. We'll keep you posted!

What an exciting week this has been! Monday the students heard speeches from all 9 of our Mayoral candidates. The assembly was filled with the sounds of cheers for all the candidates! Congressman Ben Chandler, 6th District
Representative for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, visited Stewart Home
School in August. Rep. Chandler was treated to a concert by our Handbell
Choir, and took a tour of the facilities, stopping to speak with many
of our residents. Chandler, a member of the Down Syndrome Caucus, works
hard as an advocate for all Down syndrome citizens, as well as for
