Our Pre-Academic Classes

Early Learning classes prepare our students for the next Academic level.Early Learning

This class is based on Pre School, Kindergarten – 2nd grade level activities. A typical week of learning will include: Reading aloud to the students, asking questions about the story and doing worksheets as a group.  Music therapy and/or games.  All music and games are learning based. CD’s have white board work with the songs. Fine motor skills tasks include writing and hands-on manipulatives (sorting things by size, puzzles, matching, counting things out, etc.) Gross motor skills are learned through group activities involving dances, balloons, parachute play, etc.

Life Skills classes teach independent living skills.
Life Skills

If you think about all of the skills necessary to live life to the fullest every single day it is quite a lot. That's where Life Skills comes in.

Everything from character education to personal hygiene is studied.  We discuss conflict resolution, feelings, and tolerance.  We have units on washing hands, brushing teeth and wearing clean clothes.

The curriculum also includes climate appropriate clothing, table manners, time management and even expectations of social settings.

Basic comuter skills, as well as basic academic skills, are covered in the Pre-Academic Computer classes.

Pre-Academic Computer

Stewart Home School offers a Pre Academic Computer Lab to our students who are at a Preschool, Kindergarten and First Grade level.  Programs are available that will enhance Language Development, Early Math, Reasoning, Creativity and Early Reading to name a few.  For our beginners we have Colors & Shapes, Numbers, Letters and Music.  These programs are accessed for beginners with either the use of the Keyboard or Mouse.

Computer & Mouse Skills are also available for students who are new to technology.

Pre-Academic Development works primarily with motor skills.

Pre-Academic Development

Activities in this class are designed to work with students' fine and gross motor skills, and eye-hand coordination, as well as reading, listening and comprehension skills.

One on one work centers on goals specific to each student, such as buttoning buttons, using zippers, printing and counting skills. All learning activities are geared toward improving self esteem.

Activity Center classes have projects going on all day long!

Activity Center

The Activity Center is for those students who do not enjoy or have the ability of changing classes throughout the day.

It is a more quiet, laid back environment.  We have several activities going on all the time:  jigsaw puzzles, art projects, movies, music.  On Mondays we have our Activity center trips.  The mentoring program goes on all week, using coloring sheets and posters, reading stories and playing games.
