Our Electives Classes
Art Students who participate in our Art class find a whole new world of creativity at their fingertips! They gain confidence in their abilities, and their finger dexterity improves with every project. Students in Art also gain knowledge of color coordination, which can then be carried over into other facets of their lives.
The Art Alphabet is used as a drawing technique that makes art even more fun! Craft projects are available for all the holidays.
Fine Arts This class introduces the students to the Arts: Music, Art, Drama and Poetry. Students are exposed to pieces from the earliest eras to the contemporary. Basic music notation is learned, and students create their own works of art and poetry. These projects help the students with reading comprehension and math skills.
Fitness The fitness center has a total of twenty treadmills, six stationary bikes, one stair climber, elliptical machine, and arm bike. The newest addition to our equipment is the Expresso S2U Bike. This is an interactive bike that feels more like you are playing a video game. The S2u bike has a computer system built-in and provides a customized workout in a virtual reality bike riding environment.
The fitness center currently sees approximately 175 students daily. The majority of these students enjoy listening to music through headphones or watching television while on the treadmill or walking around the track. One area is specifically designed for aerobics and theraband exercise. We are currently working on a full body strength class which we hope to implement in the fall semester.
Music
Another performance group is the handbell choir. There are 35 participants in this group. Rehearsals are scheduled during the day. Some students take lessons to play the piano, improve vocal skills or learn sign language.
There is a junior bell class for beginning bell ringers as well as other general music classes which incorporate many fun musical activities. One of our own students serves as our piano accompanist.
P. E. Physical Education at Stewart Home School encompasses a wide variety of activities. The overall goal is to increase the students' activity level and improve motor skills. We play games and learn different sports to accomplish this, as well as learn the importance of team work. Through it all, we make sure the students have fun!
In this class we go over the many aspects of employment & volunteering. We will discover strengths & areas that need improvement, social skills/social situations, safety, money management, & other important things that help set the foundation for future success. You can find us indoors and outdoors, because we are basically a class without walls. We like to work in groups to help promote teamwork and social interaction, because everyone deserves to have their voice heard and accomplishments noticed. Work needs to be taken seriously, but it can be really fun and that’s what we are here to find out together!
We are a group of seniors who no longer go to classes. We work each day on mental and physical well being. Current events, crafts, fitness, field trips, and more make up a full day of activity! We have 3000 sq. ft. of space which enables us to have many activities going on at the same time. The residents that participate in the program are happy, healthy and terrific! |
